Gauge
I have used a harbor freight dial gauge to square my table saw. I've been wondering if there is any difference using a more expensive gauge.

For what you're doing it's probably fine

In as few words as possible:
Me too
No
In depth analysis:
Accuracy of a dial indicator is not as important as repeatability. Use the Dial Indicator to set the fence to the miter gauge. Then measure at the infeed, then outfeed and finally back at the infeed. If both infeed measurements are the same you're good to go.

Rich makes a good point; dials only need to be really accurate for absolute measurement (like moving a lathe carriage or mill table a set distance), for comparative measurement it doesn't matter that much.

As said above pretty much any dial gauge would have more than enough accuracy for that purpose.
