G'Day Woodies
I know it's boring to read a "Hello" thread, but I felt it'd be rude not to say g'day and introduce myself. I'd rather not be a "random" as my teenage daughter would say.
I'm a touch over mid-forty, male, tall, handsome, married with two children, three cats and two phasmids. I am a practising Industrial Designer working for a small display firm in Sydney in the role of director. I am a keen computer gamer, cook, and sailor.
I'm also a lapsed woody despite having been given the love of wood by my old school teacher, Les Miller, back in the seventies. The man made a huge impact on me.
It's difficult making your way in a new forum so I wouldn't mind asking a few questions just so I don't tread on any unspoken rules...
Y'know; I'm naturally shy.
I've read the official bits including ubeat's forum rules.
- Are boaties held in high esteem consummate with their excellent standing in society?
- Is it kosher to ask dumb questions hoping for intelligent, if not patient, answers? I'm about to restore an old boat so I probably have a few. I know how to use the search button, but sometimes it doesn't give you the result you're after.
- Are there any SAGNs here? Is it acceptable to butcher the English language?
- Who pays for the site and is there a sponsorship arrangement?
- Where is the "social" heart of the forums or is it all divided up among the different sections?
Thank God for senility... now I don't feel so silly any more.

The wayfarer
G'day Wayfarer. welcome to our world of miscreants in all their various guises.
Have a look at the numbers viewing each forum and that will probably tell you where the "heart is".
Truthfully where your heart is is more important.
You will learn heaps here. You will be amused here. You will be saddened here.
Enjoy your self and get what you will from the various forums.
What is a SAGN? Or did you mean A SNAG? If so then we are all definitely SNAGS. and no debate will be entered into by the likes of Skew, Wongo, Stirlo, Allen at Wallen, BW, Munruben and all the other well known wonders of the forum.

General consensus is that there are no dumb questions except unasked ones. On the other hand we've pretty well established that there are unlimited dumb answers.

wayfarer,
Welcome, you won't be disappointed here.
If you have questions (even dumb ones) ask them here. You will get some wisecrack answers, some answers based on 50+ years of experience and some based on less experience. The beauty of it all is that you can weigh up all of this info and cure your insomnia.
You show an interest in boats but in no time at all you will see wonders here- like pictures of the boxes made by members, the WIP (work in progress- step by step photos of how to make things ) and important discussions on safety, best practice and how to solve that problem that has dogged you for years.
You will also get the opportunity to physically meet members and it is amazing how generous they can be.
Cheers,
Carry Pine

Thanks for the warm welcome.
SAGN does indeed mean Spelling And Grammar Nazi... a take on the soup Nazi from an American sitcom. All in good humour, naturally. I've seen it on other forums and just assumed is was common parlance. As is SWMBO. Enough to make even the most "Bruce" woody to look over his shoulder and shudder.
You'll have to help me out with ubeaut's products... I can't find a link anywhere.Thank God for senility... now I don't feel so silly any more.
