Giant King Cricket
This morning I was about to concrete a post in for my retaining wall and found this critter in the bottom of the post hole. It is about 70mm long, a body a bit like a yabbie and legs like a grasshopper. Amazing eyes and antennae with four oar-like structures on the side of its head.
Did some research on the Internet and found out it was a Giant King Cricket.
Thought it was worth sharing on this forum.

About 40 years ago, we used to get something similar - a bit lighter in colour - turning up regularly around the house here in Sydney. Now nothing, in fact rarely any crickets - possibly due to heavy pesticide use at the local bowling club and golf course.
