Girls doll houses
Well gentleman, need a little help here with some direction and ideas, my 7yr old daughter has asked me to make her a dolls house, you know the big ones that have all the miniture furniture in etc, im sure a lot of dads out there have already done this, am needing some ideas for books, or pictures of previous ones made by members for ideas, any help would be appreciated.
Sorry if this goes in the wrong thread, being my first post.

Hi Pratty, & welcome!
Do a search on here, as you correctly guess that several folks have already done this.
I did one for my daughter, after seeing pictures of Wongo's doll house, but unfortunately all my pics here are gone (as a result of having them hosted on our old ISP - note to self, find doll house pics).
My daughter involved herself in the build, and is still redecorating the doll house today. We recently put up some curtains in it - a bit of sewing, some drilling, some glueing. I'm theorising that these skills will be useful for her one day, when she has her own full-sized house.
Cheers,
Andrew

G'Day Pratty,
Have a look through the Cooroy Toymakers Album in this thread, on page 2 you should get some ideas.
Cheers, crowie

They can be as simple or as ornate as you like.
The one I made for our daughter was fairly big, two rooms up, two rooms down with stairs made of blocks of chipboard. The whole thing was chipboard apart from the roof which was thin ply and the roof capping which was a piece of hose pipe split down. Completely open at the back so they can play easily. Oh and windows were clear plastic from packaging.
Cheers,
Jim

Thanks very much for the comments guys, i will look at the threads, will definately get my daughter involved in the build, she also has a twin brother who no dount will be involved as well, usual twins, inseperable when it comes to doing things.
It does sound straight forward when you think about it, i imagine you could get carried away with it, but im thinking simpler the better, kids dont appreciate the finer things from experience already.
will post pictures when i finally get started on it, currently still building my workshop, setting it up.
Dan.

Doll House for little, ( & big ) girls too.
Hi guys, & gals. might be able to help you out. Got some photos to show too. Even have the plan IF you require one. Actually have a promo ad in the appropriate section of this forum for those who wish to look that far.( AND can actually read which does help. )
Basically my Doll House is a straight forward two story design, three ground floor rooms, and two upper floor rooms, which can be quite easily enlarged in dimensions to suit whatever size doll furniture one plans to use, or make. I use plywood through out, and seal it with several coats of Wattyl Estapol Speed Clear, ( Acrylic ), which I consider safer to use for this type of toy than similar solvent-based products.
Anyway the photos should show you most of the detail,- furniture, & all.
If you require more info simply send me a PM.

Arose, thats exactly what i have been looking for, thank you very much for posting the pictures, the plan is in the head now, all sorted, will post pictures when i get to it.
I am guessing that is MDF you have used, but what size thickness, i always have a tendancy to over engineer stuff, and it gets too big and heavy.
Maybe sizes if you had them handy,

Well spotted!
I did use MDF, and the thickness was "over engineered"
I'll measure when I've showered the gardening muck off, as it lives upstairs. It is pretty heavy, but I wanted it to last.
Cheers,
Andrew
