Hi all,

I occasionally get asked to cut glass viewing panels into existing timber doors.

Normally I would remove the door, cut the opening with a circular saw, tidy up the corners, then use a router to cut a stepped rebate around the opening, then apply small bead of silicone, insert glass panel, then use 12mm quad or similar to finish it all off, rehang the door then paint to match existing colour scheme. Comes up a treat but it can take a @%#$ long time to get to the finished product.

The other day I was on a job and I saw a you beaut aluminium moulding system that appeared to be something that you would simply cut to size and screw in place, so all you'd have to do would be cut the rough opening then insert the window assembly, fix it to the door and be gone.

So my question is, has anyone seen this type of system in use, and if so where would I get hold of it? I have asked a few of the local aluminium window fabricators but they haven't been able to help.

Alternatively - does anyone know any methods to speed up the process of cutting glass panels into timber doors??
