just gloating...
I had a good day today - I was in the shed most of it and tapered some legs with my new clifton No5 for the missus for a table i've been promising her. will post pic when its finished.
I really got off on the "snick, snick" of the plane as it cut through the timber and shavings floating to the floor - I used the manual taper method we discussed recently in another post so took most of the day to finish the job - hell of a lot of shavings.... theres a certain satisfaction doing things manually and being able to listen to the radio while working away - I had to laugh at 2GB's footy show - in amongst the self importance and pretend yobbo'ism there are some very astutue footy heads.
I even tuned into the woodies on 702 AM and listened to the woodies - I rang them and transmitted the snick snick of the plane over the radio which they got a laugh out of, maybe some of you heard it. I'd find it rather funny if they use the planer sound on the ads they make up for thier shows....
I went to bunnies this arvo and bought some ROS paper and the triton ROS thingy for a 5" inch grinder - it certainly works better than my old bosch - 9000 rpm with 40 grit just tore through the oregon... loverly.... I can now buy myself either a bigger grinder for real grinding jobs or a GMC to turn into a fulltime ROS - I think I can live with a GMC for a simple job like a ROS....
cheers.Zed

I had a funny feeling that was you on the Woodies
I spent the morning chasing a particular type of light fitting to replace a dead one. Why is it you never see the same light fitting twice? It's like they toss out all the plans & moulds and start again every 6 months. Pain in the ass. I'm sure it's a conspiracy to make us replace the lot every time one dies.
The afternoon I spent trying to finish off Yet Another Workshop Rebuild. For some idiotic reason a couple weekends ago I decide that if my new workbench is going to wind up in the right spot I'm going to have to reorganise. So I pull it all apart. Then move it all around. Now I gotta hook it all up to air, power & DC again. And now I'm not so sure it's actually any better than when I started. Bugger.
Never mind. At least it was an excuse to clean up & get rid of all the crap that shouldn't have been in there in the first place. With a little luck I might actually finish it tomorrow. The Australian Woodworkers Database - over 3,500 Aussie Woods listed: http://www.aussiewoods.info/

good on you Zed. the plane sounded very nice on the Woodies. I wish I'd had my hearing aid in to appreciate it's full magnificence.

I'm pretty sure I don't want to do anything like the renovation shows do
Basically shuffling things about in search of the perfect layout. Half of it is wishful thinking (trying to make more of not enough space) and the other half is an excuse to clean out all the crap. Still not finished, maybe another day in it.
One of the main things that's taking the time is sorting out the electrical. So far I've ripped out 6 or 7 of those nasty 4-outlet power boards and about half a dozen light duty extension cords. All the benches are now properly cabled & GPOs mounted, and I upgraded the main feeds to heavier cables.
I'll update the website & post here when it's done - assuming it's any sort of an improvement that isThe Australian Woodworkers Database - over 3,500 Aussie Woods listed: http://www.aussiewoods.info/

What's this "woodies" radio program? Is it on the ABC (he asks hopefully), because if it is, I'm guessing I can get it here.

I have to get me one of those Clifton No 5s. Just listening to Zed on the Woodies must have increased the sales of Clifton Plane sales by 100%. Zed you should contact Carbatec about a marketing job.
