The glue type doesn't matter too much. However I have found on Houn the best joint is made when both serfaces are washed down prior to glueing with Metho. This takes some of the oil away from the surface and allows the glue to key to the timber for greater strength.
Hope this helps.

I always use a liberal wipe of metho on joints before gluing and also on surfaces to be finished. It seems to help pick up fine dust, and also seems to remove a bit of resin and dry the timber.
I saturate a rag and rub the timber fairly firmly, leave to dry then finish or glue straight away.
cheers, Alex

Peasants, I bet you drink it chilled too. Should be served at room temperature but be careful of the cigar afterwards.
It was interesting on the glue up and I met a painter who told me something about finishing cedar and a product to remove the oils so a finish would adhere. Don't recall what it was called.Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

Joints rubbed with metho ? Explode ?!!; or at least ignite rather ferociously though, don't they ???
Couldn't reccommend that with a chisel in the hand!!!

I use acetone to wipe my huon pine joints, based on Alex's advice years ago. Sorry Alex, to date my huon pine boxes have all been dovetailed. I have found that Selleys Exterior Aquahere PVA glue works well for these joints.
Recently did a couple of huon pine mitred frame for lid panels, and made the mistake of using Titebond 3 yellow glue. The joints showed up quite markedly, so would recommend a clear glue with HP
Polyurethane glue is pretty much uncontrollable, the way it expands and foams, but is recommend for all oily timbers. I used it once, on black bean from memory, but with every corner taped well with blue painters tape to minimise glue on the timber. End result was still a bit messy, tape did not come off easily and needed lots of cleanup work with the chiselregards,
