Default Which way is the grain running??

I am about to join up 3 pieces of Northern mahogany [edge to edge] and want to ensure the grain in each piece runs in the same direction. The pieces were all cut from the same board and have been silced up on a table saw. The pieces came from different parts of the original board so I can't kind of put it back together and match the grain patterns. I can't work out which way the grain runs.

Is there any way to tell from looking at it??

I know this is a pretty dumb question as I should have marked the pieces as they were cut.
Hope someone has a tip or suggestion.

Sometimes its hard to see which way the grain runs.
Run the tips of your fingers lightly along the grain in both directions.
With the grain will be a lot smoother than against the grain

Like echnidna said, but if you still can't tell, try wetting it first. if you still can't tell, put a dot on the wood with a marking pen and see which way it soaks into the wood - there should be little 'tails' from the dot. The grain runs in the opposite direction to the tails. If you still can't tell, it probably doesn't matter. That's the case with the banksia I'm working with ATM.

This stuff is weird. The pental pen gave some indication but not conlusive.
I then decided to run a #4 plane over it the edges as a final test and found the grain to be all over the place. Running in opposite directions on the same face. The grain pattern kind of swirls around. It will be nice when finished.

Sounds like you might need to work on it with a scraper or Gordon high angle plane.
