Would it work on bobbin sander sleeves, or would it dissolve the glue? At $55 for a 4”x9” sleeve, they ain't cheap.

I tried pitch on the drum sander without taking the roll off, what a mess, then had to take the roll off. For all the trouble its easier and quicker to throw the roll out and fit a fresh one.

Lots of things can dissolve pitch.
There's no doubt the purpose made pitch dissolver are quick and effective but some pitch can even be dissolved with hot water.
Other things include, diesel, caustic free oven cleaner, detergents like Simple green, and my favourite, "used espresso coffee grounds in hot water".
Used espresso coffee grounds still contain substantial amounts of caffeine which is a really good solvent for pitch.
It might take a couple of gos to get things clean but for the Scottish financially minded amongst us there no need to buy more stuff that takes up more room in the shed.

Very annoying if you have just put it on! I use Citro Clean for blades etc, even dissolves the yellow on Dewalt blades. Definitely worth a try

I haven't sanded many different types of timber through my sander, so my experience is limited, but I have ruined my fair share of abrasives by running pine through my drum sander. On one occasion I forgot about the mess and was ran some really old Jarrah beams through and discovered that they removed most of the stuck on gunk that the abrasive cleaning sticks couldn't remove. That has been my go to remedy since and have had fairly good luck with it.

I use this sort of cleaning stick on my drum sander rolls, belt sander and even the ros. The sole of a sneaker will also work or a broken thong, (not the wife's ).

Carbatec have them but I usually buy them off ebay as they're a bit cheaper.

CARBATEC BELT / DISC CLEANING STICK LARGE Product Code: BELT-CLEANER-L

When using gummy woods, I use this more frequently as drum sander rolls ain't cheap.

    Cheers
