    Default Hafco T-382 thicknesser problem

I have just got the T-382 Hafco Thicknesser. First day I planed few scrap tassie oak and it came our really good! Today I Tried some redgum and spotted gum, the Spotted gum would not be planned, it just got stuck on one of the rollers. I think that the rollers doesnt have enough grip on the timber that it is pulling through, it would just creat a dint because the rollers would spin on top of the motionless timber. I dont think the blade is dull because I planned small piece of redgum and it came out fine, although i had to really push the timber the timber through. Would i need to adjust anything on the machine for it to be able to plane harder timber like red gum, spotted gum, jarrah etc

BTW the same problem happened on softer timber like tassie oak and walnut too, however it was less severe.

    cheers

I have experienced it with rough sawn timber sometimes the rollers dont seem to grip. Try some other bits of wood and if it planes them then the machine is OK. A quick skim of the top with a hand held electric plane will knock the lumps off and give the rollers a better chance to grip. I take it you read the manual and set the machine as per.

You could also try waxing the in-feed table and bed, or attach a length of Melamine coverd board inside the thicknesser for the timber to slide along.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

You may also have to adjust the rollers up a little. There should be and allen key adjuster on the end of the rollers. Put a straight edge on the rollers and check you have a uniform gap between the top of the rollers and the bed. You should measure this with a feeler gauge to get a uniform gap. Should all be in the manual, it was in mine.

I found mine to be adjusted correctly on delivery. I did wax the bed. The only time timber gets stuck is if it is not planned. great machine

Try wiping down the rubber rollers with a damp cloth, they can become slippery and not grip when coverd in sawdust.
