    Default My Hall Table Fable

I wasn't sure whether to post this here, or in the Festool section (I actually can claim to be able to post in the Festool section! Not only do I own a piece of Festool (shock horror!), but I have now done 2, yes 2 Festool courses!)

My Hall Table Fable covers my latest experience - the Hall Table course at Ideal Tools and thanks to Lignum's guidance I have learned a lot, and have pushed a design to a point I am really excited by.

The table is no where near finished - I have lots still to do, but I am very pleased where I have it at the moment. I would probably have needed another day to finish, but my objective for attending the course has been well achieved already.

There are other's influences in there, but it is a table for my home so the design features are ones I particularly wanted.

I like the bottom rails, that is quite different and works well with the top, to my eye anyway.

Well done! I like all the bendy bits too.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

    Thumbs up

    Nice work Stuart.

The bendy bits add a nice touch. What will the finish be?

Looks great Stu. Well done. How would you do that style of top without the jig on the bandsaw?

    So many questions - cool

Uh - timbers. I think mahogany? (Lignum jump in whenever!) and Jarrah (I've always been a Jarrah fan)

Bottom rails are actually cut out of a solid piece as DJ mentioned. Both identical, except one flipped and rotated relative to the other, plus offset so peaks and troughs don't just line up.

Can't imagine my face at the time - shock and wanting to kill something all mixed up with dismay and disbelief.

Finish? Probably Danish Oil, then Ubeaut Traditional Wax.

How to do that style without a jig? Very carefully! It would be quite possible, just with more care and a bit more sanding, and some powerful clamps!

    Stu,
I suggest using Wattyl Scandinavian Oil, you'll get better grain resolution and the colours will stand out more.
