Default Hand & Small Power Tools in Singapore

My daughter goes to Singapore quite frequently as part of her job. I know that electrical and electronic items and bathroom supplies are very well priced there.

She said that the system used there is that business's of the same type are usually located in the same street, So you just have to go to one area and you will find what you want.

Now, she is not woodwork savy, Is it possible to purchase tools in Singapore cheaper than Oz and if so do you know some contact or Street areas.

Originally I was thinking about a good quality block or other plane to start off and then to expand once she finds her way around.

The power supply is the same as OZ, only the plug is different and a $2 universal plug fixes that unlike the USA and tranformers.

The range of both hand and power tools is very limited here. I have been living here for almost 18 years and it has been an endless frustration trying to get good quality tools.

There is frankly no market for high-end tools here since hardly anyone does any DIY or woodworking. You certainly won't find a street filled with tool shops. My neighbours and friends think I am a bit mad for having in interest in this. I tried to get a planer-thicknesser last year and was quoted a higher price by the local distributor than to have one shipped from Australia - which is exactly what I did in the end.

Most of my other tools I but from Aus and either have them shipped or wait until I go on holidays and take an empty suitcase.

Thanks for your reply. It is handy to know somebody in Singapore.

My daughter has told me the same, not much DIY done there, most people live in apartments not houses. She did find a few places though, as you say, quality not the best. I will be seeing her tomorrow and will show her your post, she will understand it better then me because she has been there.

She and her husband both work for an International Airline and are there regularly for 36 to 48 hours stop overs.
