Just to throw a major spanner in the works, I recently ordered a 14" sash saw from Mark at Bad Axe tools in the US. I must say the service, the level of detail, the individual questions he asked me in order to tailor the saw (including the types of timber I predominantly use and asking for a photocopy of my hand) the choice of timber for the handle, and metals for the back - and then the quality of packing and shipping - this was a completely wonderful experience. To top it off, the saw is a gem. It sits nicely, is finely balanced and saws like a dream - even through Grey Ironbark, leaving an almost 'table saw' level of cut behind. At $225 it wasn't cheap - but at the point I'm at with my craft, it is a smart investment and will not only hold its value, but increase my enjoyment as well.
Shine on you crazy diamond!
