Hanging timber tables display?
Hi all,
hope you can shed some light in this for me, as i (to be honest) dont know the most of behavior of timber.
I want to display different table tops, manly natural live edge tables or resin table tops.
Since my showroom is very limited to display a wider range of tables i was thinking to hang them on single rails behind each other to roll out (like the good old farmhouse style slinging door with the rollers above)
Now my question, would this be a bad damage for table tops to have them hanging on rollers regards disturbance, bending or deforming my tables.
The tops are dried hopefully properly from my distributor and my own creations.
I know there is also option to have them rolling on the floor, the tob would allow me more freedome at the bottom tho.
Thanks for your input before i destroy my nice tables )
Cheers

Hi and welcome
The issue with hanging table tops like a door is that doors are viewed as a hanging structure, but tabletops are viewed horizontally.
Perhaps, you need some extra heavy duty slides -- a bit like these Double-Locking Extra-Heavy-Duty Slides - Lee Valley Tools or these Extra-Heavy-Duty Slides - Lee Valley Tools -- that would attach to battens placed under the table tops. Secure the table tops to the battens using just one fixing each end.regards from Alberta, Canada

Hi,
Well my question was more that if I am planning to hang like 10 tables (only the top) no legs. On rails hanging, if I disturb or warp the timber....

if the wood tops are properly seasoned, and hung in a way that allows for wood movement, then you should be fine.
Just don't mix cross grain wood expansion and contraction with long grain wood or a steel runner -- without allowing the tops to expand and contract.
I remain concerned that a vertically hung top will not get the grazing light -- which shows up "defects" -- that an in service table top will be viewed withregards from Alberta, Canada
