    Let me toss something out.
I was 6 or 7 and had spent the summer at grandmother's beach house. I lived in a bathing suit all summer and we were just steps from the bay for swimming. If it wasn't raining we were in the bay swimming most of the day.

Upon returning home after the summer and to get ready for school, my mother basically scrubbed me head to toe trying (I thought) to scrub off my summer tan.

Why this is relevant is that she had me stand in pedestal sink while she scrubbed me. I probably weighed 18 to 23 Kg at the time. Based on that experience my advice is to securely mount your hanging vanity. A little effort today will save a lot of tears tomorrow.

Pretty sure the cabinetmaker that made my wall hung vanity, put 2 x 16 mm sheets on the back.

I'd just go with the assumption that any piece of furniture large enough to be stood/sat on will be stood/sat on at some point. The weight of the unit alone is probably close to 40 kg by the time you add the top and sink and all of it will be hanging from whatever screws are holding the back on.

Just realised a flaw in my design!!!

The drawer fronts are 22mm solid spotted gum the top edge angled at 45 to allow fingers to pull the drawers out. The drawer fronts sit inside the spotted gum side panels (somehow attached to the melamine frame!) Solid spotted gum strips (40mm) span the front of the melamine cabinetry so that when you view the unit front on it is all spotted gum.

I have now realised that the melamine/chipboard edges will be visible between the drawers and the top drawer and marble top!!!!

I could change the design so that the drawers sit across the sides and use push to open sliders however my preference is to keep the initial design as I think it looks cleaner from the side.

What is the best way to address this?

Should I cut my own vaneers, say 2 mm thick and some how attach to the chip board edges?
