Hare and Forbes
After reading the February edition of "The Australian Woodworker", I saw that Hare and Forbes have a t-260 Jointer Thicknesser on sale for $795.
Being in the market for a combo machine I called up the Perth number on the advertisement. The Perth distributor if Fiore Machinery.
As it stated that the price may be more for WA, due to freight I just wanted to confirm stock and price.
Anyway, on calling, the guy on the phone didn't know what a t-260 was or whether they had any.
When he came back from his search he advised that that unit was no longer on sale as the sale had finished in December!.
Now I had only just subscrived to "The Australian Woodworker", and had left the edition I had just received at home. Since I wasn't sure if they had sent me a backdated edition I didnt say anything.
Anyways, on checking, the edition I have is the February....
Now is this some kind of new marketing technique to advertise your sales a month after they have ended!
Just wondering if its the same situation "over east"

G'day Redback,
Similar thing happened to me at H&F in Brisbane but luckily I had the current AWW with me and was able to show them. They honoured the deal as described and did a bit of an upgrade as well!
It seems the advertising and sales function is all done in Sydney months before to meet publishing deadlines and the internal communication gets all pear shaped and no-one knows what is going on!! If they can't get it right on the inside then what chance does a distributor company have on the other side of the country.
I suggest you go and visit them with the AWW. Legally they are obliged to honour it no matter what they might like to think. False/misleading advertising is a thing most organisations will go someway to avoid.

The machine I was after was an MC900 lathe and I've been more than happy with it.
I'm looking at a thicknesser next and certainly H&F will be top of my list even with their idiosyncracies.

I have found Fiora Machinery very good to deal with but I think the problem is that they are no kept informed of what is happeneing with Hare and Forbes. There is actually a Herless renamed Hare and Forbes outlet in Belmont. Fiora were the sole agents for H&F gear in WA for many years so I am not sure what the impact has been in H&F opening their own outlet in WA.
The H&F store in Belmont only deals with Metalworking machinery.
I think if you took the magazine to Fiora they would honour the deal. If you have problems email H&F and I am sure it will be sorted out for you.
Try their site www.hareandforbes.com.au for an email address.Cheers,
Rod
