    Default Hello, Introduction, and Oregon

Howdy. Just found this forum last night from a link on woodnet (www.woodnet.net). Started reading and decided I had to register. Looks like a terrific site with lots of good info--I particularly like the specialty rooms like wooden boat building, intarsia, marquetry, etc.

I have a client from NZ and I always get a kick out of hearing him say G'Day and to see this commonly used on your forum is delightful to say the least. Hope you don't mind if I give it a try:

    G'Day!

I live on the other side of the planet from Oz in the rainy Pacific NW part of the US. Recently I decided I wanted to organize my shop and learn fine woodworking (as opposed to the rough carpentry around our hobby farm I was used to). I'm glad I did and am having a lot of challenges and fun.

Got a real chuckle last night reading this forum on the subject of "Oregon" wood and what was it really. Since we use it for construction framing and firewood it was amusing to find a place where it's regarded the way, perhaps, we regard oak, maple, or walnut. I'll go post a couple of thoughts in that thread to keep everything together for future readers.

    Cheers,

    Johnbro
