Help compound mitre saw 45 cut.
Hi
Please could some one give me a good idea how I can get my 45 degree cuts on my compound saw correct. I want to do picture frames, but my 45 degree cuts are not correct. I cut one side first and then I move the arm of the mitre saw to the opposite side to cut the opposite side. The problem is the mitre saw does not move back to the 45 degree perfectly.
Thanks
Vaughan

Buy a solid pre-set 45 degree square, set it against the fence then swing the blade around too it and lock it in place.

Vaughan, Hi and welcome to the BB. You don't mention what make or model saw it is, this may help with Board members who have the same saw. Most good CMS/SCMS have adjustments for setting the fence up to give you the correct angles. I have found on most saws they can be fettled to give accurate cuts but the graduations/increments/indicatations may be only approximate and you might have to scribe the correct marks as per what Harry said.
If you cut one 45 and swing the offcut and measure the mitre joint does it give you 90 deg?. If it cuts 45 on one side then just use that side.

Hi Guys
Thanks for a prompt reply. It is great when you can talk to experts.
I bought a Ryobi compound mitre saw, model cms812. The problem is when you move it to either end, there is so much play before you lock the two pins on the fence. Basically every time you move the arm you have to measure it against the fence. I just have try what Dave said and see how my frame will come out.
If anyone has had the same problem and the have solved it, I would appreciate your advice aswell.
Thanks guys I really appreciate the help. This is a fantastic site.
Thanks
Vaughan
