    Default Need help finding

Need help finding something. I am again working on the restoration of an Antique Woodbody Car. Trim was held on with Ovalhead Brass screws (not a problem) and they were set in small cup washers to prevent them from working their way too deep or waller out the holes under constant vibrations. I can't seem to find these washers although I know they are out there but where, was hoping some of you guys have run across them Here is a crude drawing of what I am looking for.... thanks and hope you can help.
Thought maybe they might be in some Marine supply but no luck yet, perhaps if I knew the real name of them it would help in the research... Any help appreciated.

My old McMaster-Carr paper catalog has an index listing of "conical washers." Leads to a page of "Sealing & Finishing Washers."

    Looky here: http://www.mcmaster.com/
Scroll down to "Fastening and Sealing." Boink "Washers" about 1/3 into the paragraph. "Countersunk" is a likely best target.

My Enco paper catalog doesn't list or display anything like that.
Another good source is Reid Supply ( www.ReidSupply.com ). Listed as Finishing Washers (SS & not) on p. 231 of the '08 catalog.

I suspect even Lowes or Home Depot might have them, if you're armed with a picture and/or the right nomenclature.

Keyword searches are hopeless without accurate terminology and spelling.

    Best of luck.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions, I went with :
    http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/No_...ass_p/a602.htm

Seems they have just the thing But it is chrome over brass but $5+ per hundred. and I can use the electroplating process to Un-chrome or simply sand the chrome off on the top with some fine w/d paper.

My thanks to all the fellows who did some research for me and made my task easier. Several had good ideas and I appreciate each and every one of them. Really makes you think what a treat it is to belong to such a forum.

    Thanks again....

I try to make most of what I need, I did this in less than five minutes.
Finding a nut, screw and washer that was about right, and three
licks of the hammer. It could be refined with a little more time and
    some thinner washers.

Keep in mind this was a real quick do.

Neat idea, we had thought about doing similar but I found a box of 100 for $5+ and they are on the way. (they are Chrome over Brass and slight sanding on W/D paper should remove the Chrome on the top edge before installing. and they fit exactly the #6 Oval head brass screws. Will always have some on hand as well...

As for teaching, I taught WWing and then Special Exploratory Vocation programs coordinator, until the later years when I was an administrator and then Dean of Students. After retiring I went back to teaching WWing which may have had a thing or two to do with my Cardiac condition ...

    Special Exploratory Vocation programs
I taught Aviation science and Aviation history in Vocations and
Technology at a junior high school for five years. They dropped
the program because of budget cuts. We built model aircraft and
the kids learned to fly on a flight simulator. My wife taught Special
Ed English at the same school and also got caught in the crunch.

But we had a $180,000 a year football coach. ?????

Just one thought - are you sure the originals weren't nickel coated? The wear and tear of several years could have removed the coating. I was about to do something similar on a car I was working on when an old guy mentioned to me that the plated fittings that the Aussie coachbuilder whose work we were restoring had had real trouble with the plating on his fittings coming off within 2 yrs!!!! So we used nickel-plated and it looked great!
    Cheers

Could be Jeremy but... There is a reason that they refer to early Model T Fords as "Brass Cars" and the Customer wants Brass.

He is so persnickity about details I shant think he would veer too far off original.

I've got 100 on the way, some I'll attempt to De-plate some and others I will sand off the plating. Only need a handfull so I have some experimenting room.
