Help with identifying my Late Father's machines and tools
Hello Woodworkers,
This is my first post and I’m looking for advice as to what is a fair price for my late fathers beloved wood working tools. We intend to sell them and its important we respect their fair value in the marketplace.
Some machines look pretty old and really solid, just wondering if forum members might be able to provide advice.
I have lots of photos but I’ll start with descriptions and a couple of photos at the end as I have no idea what they are.
Appreciate your help, Woodygirl
Ferrex band saw (Aldi brand)
Hyco Band Saw - big machine light blue metallic on a stand
Railway anvil
Paul Call combined table saw CS 3.11.8 and plane Pl 3.11.8, looks like it has a tall attachment, post a picture of this to identity
Dawn Vice No 225 - its red and have been offered $175 is this a fair price. Looks old and solid
Marples No 6809 combination square and miter cutter
Long bench clamps - will post a photo
Drill press Toolex
Wood turners Robert Sorby sizing tool still in its bag

Hi woodygirl.
I reduced the image sizes to 1000 x 750 and rotated them for you. That'll make things a bit easier.
It all looks like standard stuff except the Anvil . They get a fair bit of interest. The larger the better. Try and list the sizes of that and a weight may be cast on its side.
edit. Its an anvil made from Rail track I see . Forget what I said above. It doesn't apply to the home made ones.
Rob .

This is only my opinion, others may see things differently. Taking things in order:
1. Ferrex bandsaw - arrive at a price by researching similar machines on Fecebook Marketplace/Gumtree. There's always plenty available. They don't go for much.
2. Hyco bandsaw - looks to be the 12" model. Depending on condition it could be worth up to $150.
3. Railway anvil - whatever someone will pay for it, which probably won't be much.
4. Paul Call tablesaw and jointer - these are too small to command much money these days. Could be worth up to $200 depending on condition. Facebook Marketplace/Gumtree might give you some ideas. The tall attachment is a blade guard for the saw, you should find there's somewhere to bolt it on.
5. Dawn vice - take his money.
6. Clamps - considering the condition if you could get $10 each you'd be doing okay.
7. Toolex drill press - there's always demand for these. 12 speed model and in reasonable condition? Up to $150. Facebook/Gumtree again to get ideas.
8. Robert Sorby sizing tool - no idea.
9. Precision ground flat stock - would depend on size and condition. Google 'precision ground flat stock' and see what's on offer, work out pricing at a significant discount on new.
10. Rasp - looks more substantial than average, anyone think it could possibly be collectable? If not $10.
11. Chuck key - throw it in with the drill press.
I hope you don't find this too disappointing, but you need to be realistic about these things unless you're prepared to spend forever trying to sell them. When looking at Facebook Marketplace/Gumtree discount the ridiculously high priced offerings. Some people think their tools are worth a fortune.

I agree with Aldav, I think even then the prices quoted are generous. Take the money for the vice. I think the rest as a whole might be $200.
i know with my tools they won’t be sold for anything near what I have paid.
cheers

No 10 is actual a Bodymans file or Panel beaters file, used for what we call file work,
$10 is a very fair price, at a swap meet you could possibly get $20/30 for it, you can still buy new ones that are very god plus new files for them.
Cheers Matt.

Thanks Aldav, really helpful advice. We also have a number of planes all different sizes including 3 or 4 spokeshaves. I'll do a bit of research for their value, I guess they are pretty collectable.

Just a heads up with the planes and spokeshaves (feel free to post them on here) but they vary a lot in price depending on make and condition. For example a Stanley #4 made after the 60's or 70's with plastic handles would struggle to get interest, one from the 40's or 50's would fare better at $30-50 in good condition, and older than that with rosewood handles could get double that. If it's a Bedrock in decent condition, the price can jump to $300ish.

it sounds harsh... may be better off taking it to scrap metal merchant.
or finding and "antique dealer" who will come at you with a fairly low price but take it all away at once. It might not be what you father wanted but it may just be the simplest solution.
