I need help identifying this type of wood on a dresser from the 40's
Attached is a picture. This wood was used on a dresser. Most of the dresser has been covered with veneer, but the sides has the wood attached. Its a real hard white wood and isnt sanding up very well. I'm curious if I've stumbled on an exotic wood of some sort. The dresser was given to us a few months ago - painted white. The restoration is going OK so far.

Struth! If it is solid, thats better than finding a couple of pound notes hidden under the dust frames.
