    Default help interpreting diagram measurements

Hi guys, I'm having trouble interpreting the dimensions shown for a really really simple task - cutting a hole for a cooktop!

Here's the diagram for the hole dimensions:

    I have two questions:

First, in respect of the vertically printed 20, is it read as "plus or minus 20mm" or does the 2 relate to the plus and the 0 relate to the minus so that it would be read as "plus 2mm but minus 0mm"? I'm thinking its +2mm/-0mm because a range of +-20mm is too big.

Second, in respect of the narrow dimension, what is signified by the division sign between the 490 and the 500? You'll note there's also a division sign between the 912 and the 918.

If it helps, the cooktop is German, so it may be a European standard for specifying measurements.

    Hope someone can help.

    Stephen.

    Correct, +2 -0

It appears to me that it is a bit of a dodgy way to do a dwg.

I believe what they are trying to show is 490 to 500, or 495 +5 -5.bit

To be sure, measure the that has to fit in the hole.

The cooktop may be German, but the dwg looks a lot like a Chineese translation to me. They my have the books printed elsewhere

    Hope someone can help.

    Hope this helps

It is also possible the printed diagram is badly printed.

If you have the cook top, take measurements from the under side and work out what size cut out is required.
Remember you can make the hole bigger, not smaller. Depending on the material the bench top is cut the minimum size hole, do a trial fit. If the cook top fits; job done. If not find out which side is tight and trim accordingly.

Guesswork on my part of course but is it possible that they make two models and the sizes separated by the division sign refer to two different tops?
    Cheers,

The division sign is a direct translation of the word "between."
Measure the drop in section of the appliance, it should measure the minimum size shown on the diagram. The overall flange size should measure a little greater than the larger measurement shown on the diagram.
    The 20 measurement is +2 -0.

I've googled the model number and found a much more readily understandable image in German.

I'll start with the smallest likely hole and work upward.

    Thanks for your help everyone.
