What are these for - help please?
G'day All. I'm not much of a wood worker and I have made my way here from the dark side (metal work) in the hope that a workworking guru can identify these little pulley things I found in the shed.

The screw part is steel and the rest is brass. The brass appears to have been cast around the screw. The pulley is approx 23mm dia and approx 5mm thick. Obviously they are made to have a cord of some description running on them but I dont know what for.
One thing that came to mind was in the old country mansions that had servants, they used a system of cords and pulleys run throughout the house to ring bells to summon the servants. I dont think these are big and strong enough for that though I might be wrong.
Maybe they were used to operate curtains or something. They look quite old but who knows.
So over to the brains trust.
Thanks in advance

I've seen those types of pulley used for door bells.
Rather than a cord, the systems I've seen used fine braided or woven wireregards from Alberta, Canada

From the looks of them I suspect that they may be a general hardware item. In other words it is whatever you want it to be. They were probably used for anything where you wanted a light weight pulley such as bell-pull, blinds etc. The modern equivalent is the cheap cast pulley you can buy from your local hardware.

So is there anyone on here who could use these in a project? I'm thinking that maybe someone is building something and could use the retro look pulleys. I'm happy to donate to someone of they pay the postage.
I'd rather not put them on gumtree as I'd prefer to give then to some one who will use them instead of potentially giving them to a 2nd hand dealer who will try and sell them. If that makes any sense.
