Help me spend $5000 on setting up my shop
I'm looking to set up a garage based wood shop in New Zealand for hobby purposes to build things like beds, dressers, desks, small boxes.
For NZ$5000, what could I buy if I wanted the following woodworking machines:
- tablesaw
- jointer
- thicknesser
- dust collection
- mitre saw
I already have all these machines in Vancouver, but am looking at moving to NZ. I'm wondering if I should sell these before I move and buy replacements once I get to NZ.

Not sure what you would get for the tools in Vancouver but getting them transported to NZ might cost too much. Carbatec has an outlet in NZ so if you want a eneral idea of what they have and how much it is, check out their website.
In my opinion, $5000 would get you reasonable gear for those items you mentioned, unless you want Festool gear.

... Aus acquiring NZ for $5000 ... to many that could be a win-win situation!
Thanks for the lead about Carta-Tec in Auckland. I had written them off after seeing a price tag of $600 for a Veritas NX-60 Block plane.
However, the Carbatec branded machines seem pretty decent value for money. How could are these machines. Would they be comparable to (say) Delta in the US in quality? (Of course the advantage with buying in NZ is the power supply and availability of spares and consumables).

Table saw? Check on the ""Saw Stop"". Won't have to ever worry about cutting off a finger.
