Help needed - Stand up paddle board
Hi guys,
New to the forum and live in Perth.
I haven't done much woodwork for quite a while but I'm looking to build a stand up paddle board for surfing. Have wanted to get one for ages and just thought I'd it would be a bit of fun and a challenge to build.
Was looking for someone that might be able to offer some advice.
If someone's built one before maybe just advice on where's the best place to get plans.
And also the best type of wood to use.
Any help would be awesome.
Cheers,
Andrew

Sup
Andrew
A search on the forum may bring to light some members who have built SUP's. I remember there has been some threads on the subject. I have sold Paulownia to quite a few East Coast guys to build them. I recently replied to a thread by surfinkid and he seems to be going into the process very throughly and may be able to help if you send him a private message.

Andrew, you should be able to find a few plans to choose from.
Here is an address for a page in a build log on the Jem Watercraft site:
JEM Watercraft • View topic - Paddle Board
This one is the Kaholo SUP on the CLC site:
Kaholo Wood Touring Stand-Up Paddleboard: Build Your Own in Under 60 Hours!
If getting marine ply is a problem (it can be extremely expensive by some standards eg mine ) you can still use stitch and glue plans by gluing strips of cedar or paulownia together to form the panels. Have a look at some of the build threads on the Jem site for examples of this technique. They refer to it as SSG (Strip, stitch and glue) and it can look very nice.
There is a boat building section here on the Woodwork Forums too so if you want any tips that's a good place to ask.Cheers, Bob the labrat
