Help with stupid mistake
So I've laminated a table top together, two boards, biscuit jointed every 100mm and the newspaper I've used to keep the piece from gluing itself to the workbench has managed to get clamped into the joint. By the time I realised this it wouldn't come back apart. So have I just wasted a whole heap of time and money? Or will the biscuits be enough to keep the strength in the joint?
It's really me off because I've done this a million times and that one lapse in concentration leads to this.

Would expect biscuits will do their job, assume you can deal with the newspaper gap. Plenty of different thoughts re biscuits on this forum though. Does the biscuit make the join or does the biscuit hold the join until the glue sets etc. for mine the glue is what makes the join last, cheers

I wouldn't be concerned about it. The newspaper will just absorb the glue and stick to both pieces, effectively becoming part of the join itself.

the bad news -- two sheets of paper and glue is one of the standard ways of joining two pieces of wood that need to be separated later.
I'm in the biscuits add little strength to a join camp
is the paper all the way across the joint or just a shallow crease on the non show side of the top?
is it likely that the "problem" will disappear when you level and sand the top?
If it's on the show side you will probably have to redo the joinregards from Alberta, Canada

Put it on the floor on top of two lengths of wood on the outer edge of the table top and then stand on top of the glue line.
If it breaks redo the joint if it doesn't I reckon you can move on.

I agree with BobL. I don't think this is the disaster you expect for two reasons:
- if BobL is right, the stand test will either hold (excellent) or not (excellent)
- because as Ian says, if it's a standard way of separating joints, then it will separate nicely and therefore a quick jointing on both sides and you're back to square one.
Now, maybe the headache might be is if the joint holds and the newspaper is obvious due to colour....then I guess it's time to rip it down the centre of those seams and redo!
Lets hope it wasn't the prized special reserve timber

BigStu80, I always use grease proof paper from the kitchen. Nothing sticks to that.
Another trick is to run blue painters tape along each side of the joint (overlap the edge by a few mm when laying it down and trim to the exact edge with a clicky-knife). Any squeeze out simply sits on top and you don't get glue stains in/on your timber. Just leave it to dry. It's a lazy way to do things
These are my hints only.

Hi all,
As a pattern maker I have used paper joint many many times and yes it will split along the joint if it is full width of the full length of the glue line(one sheet of paper is all you need be it news paper or something heavier one knock with a chisel and it will separate) if not seen on the face side and not a full inclusion along the length of the join I wouldn't think you have a problem.
Regards Rod.
