Default Help with Wine Glass rack.

    Hi WWF,

I am building a cocktail cabinet from AO and am currently working through the process to make the rack to hold glasses upside down by their stems. There are 12 rows with each row holding two glasses each.

Effectively I need to make 13 large fingers. The best and fastest method I have found to date is to use my dado stack to cut the slots however this results in the angled finish at the end of the cut, which isnt very hight end.

I had thouch of using a router table however trying to cut 12 slots into 22mm AO just sounds like hard work and will be prone to mistakes.

Has anyone got any better suggestions?

    Cheers
    Damien

Drill holes at the slot ends then saw out the rest. Spruce up with a small roundover bit then sandpaper.
Not sure what wood AO is but if the fingers are narrow and the grain is across then they may be liable to snap off.

That looks a better way to do a wine glass rack.

A mate and I made some glass racks similar to yours except that we:
    • Drilled a 20mm "stop hole" at the end of each slot,
    • Cut the slots with a band saw, and
    • Smoothed and rounded all edges with a 3mm roundover bit.

It worked fine, but neither of us was happy with the aesthetics.

    Alex's method is far better.

Even better, still, is what my mate finally did. He ripped out our masterpiece and bought a stainless rack from a hospitality supplier and just screwed it under the shelf. Different brand, but it looks like this, and only $25.
