hello! I am new here and wanting some help and advice
I run my own lolly buffet (a table that is set up at events/functions) with a selection of lollies for the guests .. I am wanting to make my own wedding wording like Mr and Mrs, Love is Sweet and also make personalised words like Mr and Mrs Benjamin Harper etc ..

The Words.
Hi pkgjmg,
Well, there are several ways of doing this.
What Size & Thickness, Several Letters or one piece.
The Cheapest wood be Polystyrene, & I think you could cut it with a 2 bladed electric kitchen knife.
Get some Poster Paint, & bingo.
Other wise, to do it in wood, you will most likely need a Scroll Saw, & every now & then, one pops up for sale on these Forums.
That's my 2 sense worth.Regards,
issatree.

Hi pkgjmg,
If you are after 3d letters you will need a scroll saw. Using this method you are most likely to be using pine (perhaps 19mm) or MDF.

Otherwise if you want to cave the text into a board a router would be the tool to use:

Try Spotlight, they have letters but they may be in custom wood.

For the scrollsaw approach, you can layout and print your template using a word processor or graphics program, then print to the appropriate size. 3M do an spray adhesive that is relocatable provided that you spray only one surface (spray both surfaces and it is permanent). By printing full size templates and sticking them to the material, you are ready to cut on the scrollsaw, then you can peel the template material off once cut leaving very little residue to affect finishing.
Hope this helps

Here's the letters I made for my recent wedding (and the ring box too, but that's for a different post).
The scroll saw was out of commission at the time, so I made it on the bandsaw with a fine blade. The inner parts on the B I did with the fretsaw.
I freehanded a design I liked, then traced it on the timber (brush box) and went silly on it. The most time consuming part was the filing and sanding it all smooth. There are a couple of stainless steel prongs inserted on the underside that hold it to the cake, too.
Hope this helps, it sure was fun to make!
