    Wongo, you're a legend. Thank you so much for going to such trouble to photograph the whole sequence for me. I can do the sawbench part ok but i'm not game to put it through my old thicknesser. It tends to chew thin stuff up and spit it out the other end in bits! I have a sanding rig I can set up to do it though. Thanks again. I'll let you know how I get on.

    If you don't want to use a thicknesser then just make the final 2 cuts on the table saw to the desired thickness. No need to cut them oversized.
