    Default Hi all merry Xmas - while we are on the subject.....

    Hi all

    Merry Xams and a dam fine New Year!!!

    Back ground - Hubby is into Xmas decorations, all over the house in a big way. Yep we are on the worth a look list.

    I spotted in a Melb market a few years ago Santa's sleigh and reindears for the yard,made from I think MDF - the dears were approx 4-5 feet high. I told hubby they would be good out the front, but I couldn't fit them in my suitcase - and then I said I could probably make them anyway! So now hubby has stirred me up every year since - wanting to know have I finished them yet.:eek:

    So I guess I better make them - any one know of some plans ( if they are for a smaller version, I should be able to enlarge them to the size I want) and recommend what materials I should use.

    In some, you make the patterns and glue on the "pictures." In others, you just paint them as you like.

    I hesitate to recommend MDF if there is any liklihood of wetness. Well-sealed ply might hold up better. Maybe someone else has done this before and can chime in on materials.

    Pity you couldn't get the deer to fly to Perth.
    You might try looking at Carbatec, they have books with patterns that may be appropriate.

    I made up santa and some raindeers about 6yrs ago, from pictures that I found on the net and just drew it larger onto some paper before I transfered it onto some plywood.

    I not sure if they still sell them but Bunnings had some wooden cutouts that you painted up.

    Definitely do not use MDF. We had a painted plywood nativity scene that lasted many years. MDF does not do well outdoors.

    Hi all

    Sorry about the spelling, I think it was midnight when I posted, only time I get peace from the family - OH OH 5yr old yelling for me again, hurry up 30/1 back to school time. Yippy 5 days peace, well between 9 - 3 any way.

    I have self storage now so I can work on them at the reno's and hide them till next xmas and set them up when every one is at school/work - big surprise!!
