Hi, first post! Building a TV cabinet, a couple of questions
Hi, first post!
I'm building a TV cabinet (my third project), and have a couple of questions:
I need to use a thicknesser to thin some ~110mm wide planks down from 30mm to 19mm thick. I've called around and nobody seems to hire out planer/thicknessers. Does anyone know where i can get one? Or does anyone live in the area and have one that i can use (i'll pay cash or beer).
Also, i've noticed that i don't sleep too well after spending an evening in the garage. I have a face mask (the type that seals around your mouth and nose and has 2 big filters hanging off it) but i'm still coughing at night. Any suggestions?
Cheers

Hi Chubs, Is there any chance you can get yourself an air filter and some dust extraction that should definitely help with the dust problem/reaction. Also try keeping your mask on after you turn off the tools as the fine dust hangs around in the air. At the very least, maybe creating a breeze to assist in blowing the dust away from where you are working maybe better than nothing.
cheers

Welcome to the world of the sane chubs.
As Wendy suggests, creating a breeze may help with dust. Largish Floor standing fans are pretty cheap - might need 2. Put one inside to blowthe dust away from you and one in the doorway to suck the dust through and push it right out.
Wendy´suggestion re the msk is spot on . Also brush do clothes and hair befor removing mask. May help to wear a cap to keep dust from your hair.

Some good tips there, thanks.
And the other thing - i need to get access to a thicknesser. Does anyone know any place that will either hire me a thicknesser, or i can take my timber there and they'll thickness it for me?

Artme: When you talk of floor fans, do you mean 40cm floor fans like these kinda things?

I might get a pair of those.
Ruffly - i've got a triton setup. I have all the dust extractor addons, but i find that a) it only gets say 50% of the shavings/dust and b) it gets in the way, so i'm not inclined to use it all that much. I always wear the half-face mask when i'm in the garage even when tools are off. Maybe i should make sure i have a shower after working, to get the dust out of my hair or something.
I guess what i'm asking is - is there some ultimate mask that everyone uses?
