Hinging mdf doors onto 9mm mdf
Hi everyone,
My first post and I am in need of some advice.
I am building a 'thing' for my boy on request of the wife.
It is going to have a 9mm mdf door which will be about 270mm wide and about 750mm high. The edge that I have to work with to screw the door onto is also 9mm mdf
I am looking for suggestions on how best to hinge this door onto 9mm mdf.
I am considering a continous or piano hinge but can't really find one that fits well onto 9mm.
I am considering a cranked hinge though am not sure if they come small enough to handle 9mm without the barrel of the hinge sticking out too far.
I have also considered sticking another sheet of 9mm to make the attachment point be 18 mm to give me some more room to move though the wife is not happy with that?!@$#%
Thanks in advance.
Goat.

Drill 6mm hole for dowell where hinge screws go, glue dowel, allow to cure for 24hrs, fit hinge but drill pilot hole into dowel first.
Next time, DONT WASTE EFFORT ON MDFThe person who never made a mistake never made anything

That is a good idea! Thanks.
Just use a normal butt hinge?
What material would you suggest to use next time?

The hinge depends on what you are making, the appearance you want when finished but (no pun intended) a small but hinge would probable do.
As for what timber next time, that again depends what you are making, the finish required and also method of joining at corners, etc.
A lot of people say MDF is ok but I have an absolute hatred of it.
For cabinet work I use melamine mostly or if a client wants solid timber then I use the timber of their choice.
Plywood is my preference and you can edge band it with solid timber if required for a neater finish. The person who never made a mistake never made anything

Drill the holes for the screws, run the screws in, take the screws out, saturate the MDF threads in unthickened epoxy and let it soak in and set before re-installing the screws.
