I had so much trouble trying to get one of these locally! Emailed a couple of local websites and got no reply.

I ended up going with a Chinese Etsy supplier for a small stamp with 150W soldering iron. The quality of the stamp is good but I'm not sure how long the soldering iron will last....

I have a larger stamp that I got from OutpostWorkshopUK (also on Etsy), that I use with a small propane burner.

What I really wanted was a high wattage variable temperature soldering iron setup that I could switch over the stamp heads on, but alas I could not easily source one.

    Crowie,

I can't help you with a local supplier, but I recently ordered 3 electric branding irons on Etsy. The first was a 200W version from this guy (Von Hanke). He was more expensive than the Chinese sellers but his quality (of the electric heater as well as the quality of his engraving) was significantly better. For my 2nd iron, I decided to try a cheaper Chinese seller and I regretted my decision. Font was wrong (even though I gave them the name of the font) and a lot of the detail of my logo was just not there. The supplied electric iron was also inferior and was probably defective (took a very long time to heat up, no temp control, shaft was loose, and the handle got uncomfortably hot) . Depending on the intricacy of your logo and the size that you are looking at, you may be satisfied with the work from the cheaper Chinese suppliers on Etsy. If you do go with the cheaper option, I would recommend forgoing the electric heater option and just get the flame-heated iron.
For my 3rd stamp, I went back to my first supplier. Not only is his work and product much superior (better engraving and thicker brass used), but his service is also much better. He worked with me at the design stage to get exactly what I wanted and sent me several digital proofs of the stamp before making it to make sure we were on the same page. And when it was finished but before posting it, he sent me a photo of the actual stamp and its resulting brand/imprint to make sure that I was happy with the result. Below are a few photos of his work...

He also does brass or duralumin coins/medallions.

    Cheers,
    Mike

have you thought about laser engraving? while more expensive it gives you infinite opportunities and images and text are clear and sharp

    Thanks mate.

Yes, you can pretty much get any shape you want. The one below is 15mm x 90mm.

But please be aware that the electric heaters may not heat odd-shaped stamps evenly. They tend to heat the centre of the stamp more than the extremities. You can get around this by using a flame or an oven to heat the stamp. Cheers.

One method I have heard of to even out the heat on those electrically stamps is to make up a mini oven or heat proof cover into which the stem can be inserted while it heats. This prevents convection currents around the extremities of the stamp from cooling those parts down.

100% depends what you want to put it on, as long as it fits in the laser. Though i see some that are just setup on the work piece.

At least you can change the logo when ever you want, or add custom text etc...

I don't know much about the technique/requirements, but I'm wondering if one could make a business-card sized, thin piece of timber (e.g. 4-5mm thick), and have a bunch of the same engraving made on them. Then attach these in an inobtrusive location on the workpiece in place of a burned stamp/logo?

This is the idea, and i have done it a few times with larger items i could not fit under the laser. I also make my own business cards 1-2mm thick.

I do exactly that with my branding iron, rather than brand the workpiece.
