How is this done!
right, so ive looked at this, looked at it again, drawn some pictures, looked at it again
how in the heck is this put together!
it cant be twisted together like a twist dovetail because the pieces would be in each others way
its not glued from multiple small pieces from what I can see in my HD picture, no visible glue lines.
i would LOVE to know how this is done, maybe even if someone knows where a picture of the pieces apart might exist??
Cheers! DSC02599.JPG

Me too. I'd be really interested to see how it turns out. Even with the joins, it looks beyond me and my meagre talents.

I had a search on Google images and found THIS; unfortunately I can't visit this site because I'm on shift and our Big Brother "corporate access policy" is concerned I might be trying to log on to somewhat dubious websites like "donkeyfondler.com"
Again.
So, when I get home in another eleven days I can investigate, but it looks like it may have been knocked up with a proprietary system like the Incra jig.

I'd say you're probably right on. It's called a 'double box joint' corner design. I just checked out the cover of Incra Projects and Techniques here
http://www.incra.com/info/cover_intro.pdf , which covers double dovetails among other things.
Not the same joint, but along the same lines. Once through the dovetail jig, glue in extra pieces, then through the jig again.

It is veneer. I have done many times for my clients in different designs, not on boxes however, but cabinets.

The types of joints that can be done with jigs like the Incra and Jointech
Are often called double dovetail, or double box joints. There are also double
double dovetails and boxtail joints. I suppose there are also other variations.
Originally such joints were called inlaid dovetail or box joints. The process of
making the was tedious and involved the use of small sections of veneer.
