The problem with Bunnings as I see it is that if you buy from them you are giving them a mandate to do more of the same.
In 5 years if you keep trying to save that 15% you will only have Bunnings to buy from as everyone else will have shut their doors and I suspect they wont be giving any discounts or stocking of any quality either.

Think ahead before you chase perceived discounts.

    Talking luv it

As per usual i have been drawn into a thread with the bunny bash topic, we do love to hear about the little man getting done over and how to avoid it.

    Jur,
i visited the new Mitre 10 Mega store at Modbury SA, about 8pm in the week. With the size and flashness of the new premises i was expecting Bunnings(packed to the rafters) with service. Very disappointed on entering to see 2m high shelving in a deserted shed(plenty of head room to the rafters). The main advantage i did see was that if i needed service i was outnumbered 4 to 1 by staff all asking if i was ok. Will visit again in near future to fully check it out.
I tell my wife, it's not a lie if i believe it's true

I bought a ROS the other day from Bunnies and the guy who served me told me that it took 115mm sanding disks. Fair enough so I go an buy a pack of 240 & 320 grit. Both packs were $4.89/pk as were all the other grits. When I got home and went to use it I noticed that it takes 125mm not 115mm disks so back to the store I go to replace them. Lo and behold got the 320 and 240 but for some inane reason the 240 were $6.03/pk every other grit was still $4.89 but the 240 was dearer.
    Why???
Because it is the most popular used so they hike the price up.

Went to the Toolies sale on the weekend and all their disks were $4.90 no matter what sized grit. Different brand and I also got the 10% off for the sale so they ended up cheaper but even their day to day price is not bad. I know where I will go and buy them from now - even though they are 1c dearer
    Regards,

I used to have three hardware stores within 2km, a Mitre 10 and two little blokes who had been in business for a generation. Want a tin of varnish, walk over to the hardware store at lunchtime and buy it. Not in stock, "No worries mate, I'll have it on tomorrow's delivery". Bunnings (then BBC Hardwarehouse) moved in 3k up the road and started the price cutting. Result no one left locally except the big B. Not in stock? "Sorry, don't know if it's in the warehouse, I'll put it on the order but don't hold your breath!"
For tools now, I'll go further afield to Gasweld. Their prices are competitive, most tools are in stock and the sales staff know what they're selling.
Price isn't everything, a couple of dollars extra locally will usually be less than the petrol to go to Bunnings.
A little off the thread but worth quoting from John Ruskin " There is hardly anything in this world that some man cannot make a little cheaper and a little worse, and people who consider price alone are that man's lawful prey."
    Graeme
