    Default Identify seat?

    Hi there,
I just noticed this photo in a recent house mag, and rather like the low seat. It'd be great for reading next to the fire in winter, or sitting on the verandah (not in winter)....so might be a future project.
Pretty simple and probably home made, but has anyone seen one before...does it have a name even? It sort of strikes me as 60's Scandinavian?

    Cheers,
    Andy Mac

    Cheers,
nice chair, vaguely recall seeing something like it way back,
walking to school in Sydney in the 70s I'd go past lots of small family run furniture making businesses, as soon as a new scandinavian chair design appeared in a magazine it was being copied by these guys,(just as good quality in most cases)
Alvar Alto's formed ply chairs had em stumped for a bit.

what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Vague recollections here too, 'Low Boy' comes to mind for some reason, it looks hard to get out of.

It wasn't exactly a walk in a park for the Artek, either . Good for them there were guys who weren't afraid of dark .

If I copied any of Aalto chairs for myself, I'd go for Lounge Chair No. 43.

Might be way off the mark but reminds me of George Nakashima's work

If you go to google.com, then select "Images" on the top left, you can search "Scandinavian Chair" - I just did, and while I didn't see the particular chair you're chasing, there are some with similar design elements. But then again, I didn't go through all the pages of results.

BTW there are also heaps that are totally irrelevant.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Pete,
I have done exactly what you suggested a couple of days back, and no exact match. I do like the design still, and although I can see a slight issue about getting up out of it, I reckon its a step up from the cushion I now use on the floor, or the three legged milking stool I have used!

    Cheers

Andy you might be able to use a plan for an Adirondack chair, leave the arms off and make a few minor changes. Do woven leather straps rather than the cross battens. Try the link below.

I think I have that magazine. Like the chair too. I am drawn to interesting ways to construct things. Now I'll have to look through my stack again and see if I can find it. Torture, it will be.
