    Default Illustrated carpenter and Builder

My interest in woodworking is known to my friends and I have a good friend who picks up copies of old woodworking magazines from the occasional market. I've always appreciated these gifts of old magazines and enjoy reading them and filing them away in my collection.

I was amazed and surprised by the latest old magazine I was given - a volume of "The Illustrated Carpenter and Builder" newspapers dated 1889!

It makes interesting reading - especially to see that the "impossible dovetail" that has been discussed on these forums was being discussed in several issues. The more times change, the more they stay the same.

I was reading the dovetail article. It got me thinking about how in those days, if you had a question, you would write to the magazine and then wait for your answer to be published, what would have the time line been then? Weeks maybe months.

Nowadays if you ask a question on-line, most people expect an answer before the day is over.
