Marts and Daz, speculate and draw all the pretty pics you like. My advice is to go out to the shed and have a go Come back, post your pic and then we`ll talk

Cut the tails almost through (or as much as necessary) on the hidden side at their root so they can flex over the narrow part of the bridge

That's a very colourful theory dazzler. Some of my earlier posts did try to explain that a perfectly fitting joint of this type was impossible.
My advice: LET IT GO, PEOPLE! Or get out in the shed and try out your theory du jour!
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

I have been away for a while and have obviously missed some developments in this thread.
Has somebody actually posted the ebay solution?

Barry did post the ebay solution but he removed it later himself after reflection of the fact the the solution is copyrighted by the seller and republication rights were not guaranteed. (in other words just covering his ????)
Have a nice day - Cheers

I reckon I could assemble that joint, although it could take a few goes before the pieces didn't break. Its amazng what you can do with a lump hammer, a trowel, a few beers and a mission.
It took me a while to get the hang of the twisted dovetail, before I realized you need to sort of twist / rotate the pieces together, but a lot of things got busted in the process.
But hey, at least us blocklayers realize in the first few futile moments, if you can't bash, hammer, or otherwise hack things together, they probably don't fit, and you should move on to more practical solutions.
Can you work out the way the twisted dovetails go together

impossible dovetail
Is that it? Surely this thread can't die before the answer is posted? I came late to the discussion, but that joint must be impossible. If posting the trick spoils the joke, how about a further clue, oe perhaps a PM?

The eBay "solution" is back - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/IMPOSSIBLE-LO...QQcmdZViewItem
Don't forget that it has been posted here already, so don't waste your dosh on it!
BTW - does anyone have some pictures of Lignum in a compromising position (eg chockablock with a goat or, worse still cutting mortices for floating tenons by hand with the Domino looking on ) - all else having failed to get the aswer out of him , perhaps blackmail will workCheers

So sad that this thread died. I just discovered it through this other "impossible puzzle".
