Haven't got a website but the following book gives very comprehensive info on standard furniture dimensions

Reader's Digest Book of Skills and Tools
    ISBN: 0 86438 856 X
Published by Reader's Digest (Australia) Pty Ltd

The Latest copy of Fine Woodworking (June 2005, Issue 177) has an article on the dimensions of many different types of tables. It also states (p. 63):
"Beware of 'standard' dimensions. Few people are exactly 'standard.' Unless you are building may examples of a particular table, your client will be better served if the dimensions are uniquely suited to him. Nevertheless, certain aspects of many tables really shouldn't be changed, such as the amount of leg room required beneath a skirt or the area a diner needs for greatest convenience."
The book, "Tage Frid Teaches Woodworking, Book 3: Furnituremaking" has dimensions for all kinds of different furniture, as well as a whole chapter on "Designing for People". He also highlights the importance of seeing the space where the furniture will go.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

I'll second Echnidna's link - go there & click on Furniture standards. Other pages there are good too.

Some furniture is (from an orthopedic design point of view) best made to suit the individual.
But this isn't practical for some classes of furniture
e.g. A Dining table and chairs.
Here you must design for an average. If you designed for 1 specific person the setting may not accomodate average people? If you design it for a number of different people the table height and chair heights will vary from place to place about the table. It could be done but it will possibly end up a crummy looking piece.
