I'm with Brendan. We used to make them at school (100 years ago) with a piece of string and the old 12" wooden rule.

Be sure to use good string and don't have to much fun.

Should have a go at a Ging (Shangeye) while your at it?

Another thing I've always wanted to make but can't fing a plan for is:

A wigwam for a gooses bridal, my dad had lots of them when I was a kid.

Yes, good things are cattys or catapaults or shanghai's. But you really need 1/4" square rubber to make good ones plus, of course, the leather ends of yer dad's braces, either cut the right sort of branch of the the apple tree or the privet hedge, preferably leaving a big hole. Sigh, long times past.

Dad used to hunt rabbits with one in England using moulded lead balls. Of course, in England, everything belongs to someone else and us workers can't afford to hunt, shoot and fish. Australia is a totally different ball game, bless her.

Bit like my Dad growing up in the Aussie bush during the depression. Used to go out early to milk the cow. Funny thing was they were not on a farm and had no cows of their own.

Must have been hard growing up in those days but bet they made the most of it.

Mum grew up in Hobart riding a Clydesdale to school, guess thats sort of like the 4WD's that city Mums drive the kids to school in these days?
