    Mariano,
Thanks for postingt pics of the trunk - fantastic - I especially like the drawers built into the sides and the way you have done the top, I'm also curious if it is a 'local' design?

Anyway please keep the woodworking up and don't forget to post your new projects

THAT is a "CHEST".........a trunk is lugage......... you put treasure in a chest......that most certainly is a chest.
I recon you could enter a competition with that one.
I am always amased at the amount of space people live in in south america and what they manage to do with it.

    Crikey jack.....keep at it.

    cheers

Thanks again all for the welcome!! The "chest" is not really an Argentine design, and there are many things that end up as "workarounds"

I began the project about 1 year ago (but not working too much until the last 3 or 4 months), and I was mostly used to tenon and mortise joins, and the only way I could imagine the trunk was to use four square and wide columns on each corner (2 1/2 x 2 1/2 or so), with the mortises in each inside face. That leave some unused space at the sides (inside the chest), and the only idea to fill that was to put the drawers!

I didn't draw it before hand, just tried to think about a nice design, and then keep working and fixing the bad ideas as it goes. I'm sure that your workworker's eye would find many "fixes" if you look closer!

As the wedding is only in 3 months, I probably won't have much time these days, and I'll probably use the time to tuneup the tools again, so I can start full stream once married! But I'll try to keep writing and reading the forum

Cheers, and have a great sunday!

    Mariano,

I can't help but to write and say what an inspiration you are. I use my lounge room as my workshop but can take my power tools outside. I will now consider I have luxury!

That chest is one masterpiece and you should be extremely proud of what you have achieved.

    cheers

    Mick
