This is the link to Australian wood review that has the competition just read in the first few lines of the challenge and you will understand what I'm talking about

Joinery is just that... making a joint.
Most would consider it to be making furniture here in Oz, but you can build a whole house using "joinery" in the traditional sense, its just not done(in Oz)because of labour/time costs.....................................................................

There are several concepts here based on qualifications.
1. Certificate III in General Construction (Carpentry - Framework/Formwork/Finishing)
2. Certificate III in Carpentry and Joinery
3. Certificate III in Carpentry
4. Certificate III in Joinery (Stairs)
5. Certificate III in Joinery
In #2 above the joinery aspect relates in essence to that work to do with windows, doors, furniture. Carpentry in both #2 and #3 covers work involved with construction, ie building a house.
#4 is specific to the construction and instillation to stairs.
#5 is in most respects a combination of the joinery part of #2 and also #4, (stairs).
Now in your competition you will find that the term joinery is being restricted to that work covering delicate items, boxes of special nature, cigars, jewellery etc.
