i think it will be a good decision and looking at it next to say Carbatec's 6" jointer it makes the Carbatec look like a toy.

Do you have (or have access to) a precision straightedge? If so, can you check and report back on the flatness of the tables? I'm curious to know if the flatness problems are confined to a single model (the JPT-310 has been getting a lot of bad press on these forums lately), or if it's across the whole Jet range.

Unfortunately not. I have been struggling to justify the ~$100 price tag. I am however fairly close to doing so so may start up a new thread asking for opinions.

I can highly recommend the Veritas straightedges. I chose the 36" steel one over the aluminium versions, but that's just a personal preference (I like the solid feel the extra weight gives).

Hi all

I know that this post was predominantly on the larger machines (which being honest I would love to have, but don't have the space) but was considering the 6 inch benchtop jointer by carbatec. All that I know about jointers is they cut straight edges :P haha so im interested to know if anyone has used a benchtop mini one or if there is a better smaller unit to consider? Will be mainly using it for making small boxes and at most to make some larger items such as bedside table tops and alike.

I have seen on other post that the bench top is a reasonable jointer and like you my main interest is boxes and small furniture projects but I opted for the CTJ 196 short bed and am very happy with it. The tables and fence are flat and the timber has a very good finish. Because I am using small pieces I like to take several fine cuts rather than take it off with larger cuts.
