I have a Sicar 14” combo that has served me very well. The dust collection is a bit primitive, but it works. I have no trouble getting straight 3+ metre boards from it. The tables are 1630 long, three straight knives. It is three phase, but I added a VFD which works well.
I like old machines, but before a certain age planers had coal shovel chip removal, no dust control.
I have never had seperate machines and don’t really mind the change-over. The more forethought in your machining the less frustration. Also you need some kind of precision height adjustment on the thicknesser for the inevitable need to return to a previous dimension.
