TIP - Woodworking with your phone - regular measurements and sizes.
Hi,
This is my first post so if I break some rule please point it out.
My memory is not great for figures such as
What's the footprint of the drill press and cabinet?
Table saw blade arbor size in metric and imp since some sell blades by metric measurement and others imperial?
What spanner do i need for the old trim router I use infrequently?
What is the widest 45 degree cut on the mitre saw?
What size socket do i need for the wife's cars sump plug?
So all phones come with some notepad or memo facility. I started a page called "Statistics" [anyone think of a better title?] and every time I have to measure, look up or trial and error a measurement or size I ask myself am I ever going to need this again? If the answer is "yes" or "maybe" it gets entered.
With practice this comes down to seconds and within a short time it becomes a great time saver.
Cheers Everybody

Hi D-Type
Welcome to the forum. You will find lots of useful information on these fora with lots of knowledgeable people contributing. I do something similar with my phone. I have S Memo on my Samsung and have set up a Bunnings page. When ever I run out of something I pop it onto that. Because whenever I am at Bunnings I seem to forget why I went there.

Welcome D-type. Been using that exact same thing for ages, it is a great tip.
I use it for all of the things I am looking for, drive belt sizes, battery numbers for button cells etc, model numbers of all my equipment.
It is a great function.
Lyle.

I use a note app on the phone for making up lists and also for odd things like sandpaper sizes and headlight globes.
Also use it for remembering door codes.

I have a few different apps for this that i run depending on what i'm using it for.
I have Evernote for lists, measurements, designs etc. Evernote is great because you can sync your PC and your phone to it (download it on both). So if i'm on the run, I enter a note on my phone and it saves to my account. When i log into my PC, those notes are on that too and i can edit them from there. Can only link 2 devices without paying though. Still a good little app.
Samsung Note for just quick things i need to jot down and only reference once.
Trello. Now this is a fantastic tool to use. You set up a trello "board" with multiple lists. On each list you can create a "card" with an individual task, you can add photo's, spreadsheets, lists etc to cards as you work on something or research. You can assign colour coded "Labels" to each card, I use Red, yellow & Green to prioritise, and you can reorder the cards on a list in any order by dragging and dropping. You can move cards from on list to another as well by dragging and dropping. I have one for all the projects and things i need to do around the house. You can get an app on your phone for it so you can access it on the go. Works best in Google Chrome. I also use it for work to manage my to-do lists etc. It takes a bit of getting used to but its easy as to use and you can get a bunch of addons for it that give it added functionality. (I don't work for trello btw, just love the product). Its free to. Here's a screenshot of my personal board, and a screenshot of an open "card":

I used to use all kinds of different software.
I've been making an effort to stay with the basic apps that come with my iPhone over the last few weeks.
Been looking deeper into the basic and simple to use Notes on the iPhone lately.
Also been looking deeper into basic and simple to use Calendar and Reminders on the iPhone.
Also been practicing using Siri commands etc.
hthThanks,

Thanks. This seems to take it to much more professional level. Is this the free version or the purchase version? If purchase what is the cost/

Not sure if this was directed at me, but all of my suggestions are free programs. They have the option of paying for more features, but i haven't found the need to use any of those either personally or professionally.
Evernote is pretty much the same as your built in note taker on your phone, with the added benefit of syncing to your PC. So whatever you write on your phone can be accessed/edited on your PC and Vise Versa.
Trello while it looks fancy, is really quite simple. I find that i use it to make the same notes i would on any other note taking program, but this organises things better. The drag and drop makes it all quite easy and fuss free.
if it wasn't directed at me, apologies for rambling for no reason haha

Hi Dibbers,
It was. Can I ask a silly question? I thought by hitting reply at the bottom right of your post would mean that my post would not be general but would be attached to yours. So How do I link my comment to a particular comment rather than the whole thread? Thanks
