    Default Kyneton Lost Trades Fair.

    Hi to you all,
Well, if you couldn't go or didn't go, you really missed out.
Sat. there were 87 Stalls, with 7200 people that attended.
I was told that by a couple of the Organizing Comm.
I wood say Sun. was approx.the same amount of attendees.
Most of the time, you were battling to get through the crowd.
There were a few hiccups, such as 1 place to get a Coffee, took me at least 1/2 hr to get a Farmers Burger, & for what I got, I thought $10 was a bit steep.
Some of the people parked miles away, when they could have tried their luck getting in the Grounds of the Racecourse, we did & got quite close to the Venue.
We had hundreds of European Wasps to contend with, but there was nothing anybody could do about them.
There were a few of those Yellow Topped Catchers around, that were doing there job, & I don't think or heard of anyone being stung.
( In Passing, you can put a wasp down with Hair Spray.)

There was such a selection of Crafts & Trades there that you wood never believe were still around.

I took heaps of Photos, but my limited ability to put Photos up, leaves you all wondering if it happened.

I think another person will most likely put some up.

Like I said if you didn't go, you sure missed out.

I spoke to 3 People that came all the way from Sydney, & thought it was well worth the effort.
A few came by Train from Frankston Vic. $5.80 ea. $10 to get in, what a cheap day they had.
    Regards,
    issatree.

We also went on Saturday and enjoyed our time. I saw you, Lewis, in the distance but was not able to catch up.
We agree about the coffee situation. I think the organisers should consider at least another coffee/drink outlet at the far end of the stands.
We had finished by 1pm and, seeing the long queues for food, decided to leave and had a good lunch at the Royal George Hotel in town.
My wife, being slightly shorter, had difficulty in seeing some of the demonstrators, so they may need to space out the stands where the crafts are being demonstrated to allow viewing from 3 sides.
These comments are meant to be constructive and we hope that the Fair can continue bigger and better in future years. It can only be good for the Kyneton community as the town was certainly buzzing.
Sorry did not take my camera and my phone does not take good photos.

Thanks Issatree and Chesand for posting!
Unfortunately I was unable to attend at the last moment, however, from the reports of Club members and others they had a great time with many exhibits to see. On the down side was mentioned the parking and food. A mate of mine went yesterday (Sunday) and deciding not to line-up for half an hour for the meagre food on offer and decided to go the nearest hotel bistro, The Royal George.
On arrival at the hotel he was told that they ran out of food after Saturday.

This event can only get better in the coming years and look forward to next years event, hopefully.

I should have mentioned the parking. We were lucky and found a spot just outside the main gate. I still gave the CFA a gold coin as I walked in. All the nearby streets were completely full right back to the main street when we came out.
The Royal George was certainly busy on Sat as were most of the other eateries along the main drag.

Well I went to the Lost Trades Fair on Sunday. I was amazed at the size of the crowd, right from opening time the crowd was big.

It was great to see so many people interested in the old trades. It was however a bit difficult at times to get to see what you wanted to see, and I do not think the organisers were expecting so many people. Lines were long for food at lunch time, ets, so in a way it was a victim of its own success.

I mean the above comments as a good thing. It was everything you could expect for a showcase of old time trades. I do not know how many exhibitors there were but they were plentiful and varied. Even when there was more than one representative of a trade, such as blacksmith, of which there were a few, they were all practicing different aspects of their trades.

I think it was well worth attending and I went home with about 1/2 a square metre of thick leather from the saddle maker for $5. Apparently it had too many minor defects to use in a top of the range saddle but it will sure do a lot of vise and mallet faces

I will be going back next year, unless they go stupid and move it to Jeff's Shed too.

    Cheers

    Doug
