The right place at the right time!
G'day all you woodies I hope you had a great Christmas. I hope you don't mind me sharing some good fortune with you.
In Perth we have a once a year junk rubbish collection day where anything from washing machines or old furniture etc can be placed on the nature strip of your house and then be taken away free of charge. Well just being a new woody hobbyist I kept my eye out for any hard woods etc and lo and behold just as I passed the rubbish truck in the street around the corner from where I live, this guy was placing what looked like jarah and other harwood offcuts on his nature strip ready for the rubbish truck which was only a few houses away from his place. I quickly pulled over and asked him if I could have the wood which was all jarrah etc 35x35mm & 120x25mm peices by varying lengths of 600mm to 1.2 mtrs. There was enough to fill completely the back of my falcon station wagon with the seats down. I asked him where he got the wood and he told me he owned a joinery shop which was at the back of his house. I asked him if I could have a look at his shed and equipment and he took me around the back and it is one of those sheds that we all dream of having with all the space and tools that you could wish for. He then showed me a some racks of timber he had stored and said that he was going to sell it all becaus he was having a cleanout. It had lengths of Jarrah 3mtrsx150x45mm; 200mmx50mmx2.5mtrs; 300x50mmx2.4mtrs and a whole heap of other lengths of Jarrah and also pine and origen or origon I asked him to give me a price on what he would like and so gave hime my phone number. About half an hour later he rang and said if I wanted it I could have it for nothing if I picked it up the next day. I'll give you one guess what my answer was. I brought home four 6x4 complete trailer loads of timber stacked as high as the springs would allow. On the last trailer load when I went back he then said did I want the steel racks as well, which I gladly accepted. I estimate there would have to be at least 2-3000 dollars worth of timber...and it didn't cost me a cent...what a Christmas I had.Since light travels faster than sound,

Lucky bugger
(It could have even been oregon )If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

Very lucky indeed.
There is a cabinet maker not far from me who operates from his back yard, sure wish I had his shed also .. especially the big old bandsaw in it.Brett

I don't believe this story is true because it's too good to be.
Congrats. Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Yep, oregon is better but hey the english language is quirky isn't it.
And yes I will certainly buy him a thankyou.
I enjoy the wit and humour in this forum, and I also love seeing woodies sheds and photos etc...keep it coming

I'm with Zenwood, too good to be true. We should start a poll to see the general verdict of believeability (if that is a word), but if it is well done sir!
