    Default Laminate top

Hellooo everyone. I have just bought a solid silky oak dining table for $40, but someone has put a laminate top on it. Has anyone got any ideas about removing the laminate. I dont know what type of glue they have used. I have heard about using a hot iron and wedges to melt the glue and prise it off but i would like to hear some more ideas from others first before i start. Thanks Trev

A trick we used to use in the white board kitchen industry was to lay the job on its side so the laminate was vertical the open up, with a thin paint scraper, the joint between the timber top and the laminate. then with some lacquer thinners in a sqirty container let the liquid soften the glue while you apply slight pressure to tear off the laminate. You will only be able to go as fast as the softening glue will allow.
This works really fast on reasonably freshly applied glue but I would guess it will be quite slow if your table has been laminated for some time.
You will be left with a sludgey surface that will clog a belt sander quickly but persevere
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod
