Default Laminating over New White Melamine Chipboard

Just wondering if there are any problems laminating over new melamine chipboard?
I am designing a cabinet that will have four doors that I want to laminate plus a couple of end panels and some face frames.
Could I just use double sided white chipboard and laminate over it?
I will just use the double sided white chipboard inside the cabinets.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mal

    Hi Mal
I have just laminated a 1 mm false front to some drawers I made. They would normally be hidden by the large drawer panel on the bottom drawer but I didn't want to see the white melamine when I opened the drawer.
I just glued it on the same way you would do laminex, with contact glue. Looks like it was always sitting there.

    Wolffie,
    Thanks for your reply.
Looks good, I think I will go ahead.
Let me know if it falls off in the next few weeks.

    Thanks Mal
Will do but it looks fine so far, I followed the advice of my cabinetmaker and I think he knew what he was talking about.

Another thing I did was buying some iron-on pine edging (you can get it in other timbers too) and sticking on all the edges of the inside front drawer panels.
I didn't like the look of the endgrain of the stiles so I stuck it on the top of the panels too, then used a craft knife to cut out the contours of the mouldings.
I think it made a vast inprovement on the look.

Yes I am looking at Wilsonart limanite - Port colour (a deep maroon for us Queenslanders) in a combination of the double sided board, laminate, iron on edging and paint match sourced from Parbury in Brisbane.
I'll use the double sided board with iron on edging for the doors, laminate for the end panels and face frames and paint match for the almost hidden areas.
I think it should come up OK.

I was about to post the same question. Wolfie, did you roughen the surface of the melamine before gluing. I test glued a small patch of spotted gum veneer onto a sanded melamine face with aquadhere and clamped overnight. It seems pretty secure. I have a heap of hmr melamine lying around and it seems a shame not to use it if it is gluable. Anyone else done this before?

I just did a slight 40 grit sanding of the surface.
