laser distance measurement devices
Hi all, Has any one here used or have details on laser measurement gadgets. There seems to be quite a few on the market and I have noted you could easily throw away your money on the wrong one. I require one to 50-60 meters with good accuracy. All advice gratefully recieved and thanks.

Hi Mike
what do you want to measure with the laser?
and what will the measurements be used for?
if it's to estimate the size of a painting job accuracy is not much of an issue
if it's to determine that a run of built-ins should be 3.45m long, then if the device you're using measures the space as 3.46m you have a problemregards from Alberta, Canada

I have only seen them work by the trademan who I asked to do some work for me. it was used in replacing a tape measure. I never asked this question, what happens it the laser measure it pointed up or down slightly. I do not know if these are capable of that calculation. something to think about.

measurement
Thats a point I had not thought about, but I think you operate them on a direct line that is to be measured. Ian I do hope i would get a device that measures within a mm or so. I have tried with a couple of cheapies and they were not within ten mil so really would be a waste of money hence the question.

Hi
I have a Bosch DLE70 Pro Distance Measuring Device, received as a present, and used occasionally.
Excellent, solidly built, and able to be trusted.
Really only useful to about 25 metres.
Mere mortals like me have trouble seeing the red dot at that distance, and I use a reflector sheet.
In my opinion, "other factors" interfere with measurements beyond 20 metres.
Sunlight, reflecting surface nature, limits of eyesight, human perceptions etc.
I wouldn't use mine for measuring property boundaries etc, you need a purpose built device.
About 99% of my measurements are less than 10 metres.
Mine can do area measurements also, useful for painters.

Hi Mike
Sydney Tools seem to have a reasonable range SYDNEY TOOLS - Digital Laser Measuring Devices though, if by cheapies you meant less than $40, the price for one that does what you want to do could be a bit on the sideregards from Alberta, Canada

laser distance measurement devices
I've got one, a cheapie. It is great for rough measurements, but I'd never use it for critical measurements. They are not able to be used less than 600mm, and I can't get a measurement over about 15m. I'm sure others are better though.

I spent last week organising a new kitchen for our new (old) house. The guy that did the measuring used a laser device and his measurements seem to match up to mine very, very well. I spent hours using a tape, he spent minutes. He drew up the plans - 3d projections etc, and it all seems really good. I guess the proof will be when the stuff is installed.
The longest measurement would have been under 6 meters and the shortest under 1 meter.____________________________________________________________

thanks for advice
Thanks Mike, Avery, Trav, Ian and Christos. The Bosch glm80 seems to be what I am after. These gadgets seem to be worth their weight in gold in a lot of situations so I might lash out shortly on the Bosch. There are quite a few on the market which makes it a bit harder to decide on a product, Thanks for your help.
Regards Mike
